Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our air freight and sealift logistics solutions.
What is EPLS Freight Forwarding?
EPLS Freight Forwarding is a specialized service offered by EPLS Group of Companies that helps customers ship goods to Nunavut communities by air freight or seasonal sealift.
You maintain control over what you order, where you order from, and the product cost that works for you. EPLS Freight Forwarding assists with coordinating transportation, handling, and delivery based on your shipment type and destination.
How do I get a quote from EPLS Freight Forwarding?
You can request a quote for air freight or sealift by completing the applicable quote request form on our website or by emailing us directly at freightforwarding@eplsgroup.com.
When requesting a quote, please provide as much information as available, such as:
- Product description and quantity
- Estimated weight and dimensions (if known)
- Originating location
- Destination community
- Preferred shipping method (air freight or sealift)
- Any additional services required
The Freight Forwarding Team will provide a quote within 1–2 business days. The quote will include processing charges, freight charges, and any additional applicable services.
What happens after I approve the quote?
Once the quote is approved, the Freight Forwarding Team will connect you with our Accounts Receivable department to arrange prepayment. Payment can be made by:
- Credit card (over the phone or in person in Winnipeg), or
- E-transfer
No other payment options are available at this time.
After payment is received, we will provide instructions to proceed with placing your order from your supplier and share the appropriate delivery address for our warehouse.
What happens if the actual weight and dimensions of my items are different from my estimate?
If the actual weight or dimensions differ significantly from your estimate, we will issue a revised quote after physically weighing and measuring the shipment.
If the revised cost is higher, we will arrange payment for the balance. If it is lower, a partial refund will be processed where applicable. Shipments will proceed only once any outstanding balance is settled.
How long does it take for my order to arrive to my community?
Air Freight
Once your order arrives at our warehouse, we aim to ship it within 1–3 business days. Delivery timelines typically range from 7–14 days, depending on destination, weather conditions, and carrier availability.
Sealift
Sealift shipments are moved during the seasonal shipping window and are subject to sailing schedules, port cut-off dates, weather, and carrier availability. Delivery timelines vary by community and sailing and will be communicated as part of your quote and shipment planning.
What happens when my order arrives to my community?
Air Freight
Our Freight Forwarding Team will notify you when your goods arrive and are ready for pickup.
- For shipments destined for Arviat or Rankin Inlet, pickup will be at the EPLS Home Hardware store in the respective community.
- For shipments to other Nunavut communities, pickup is typically at the local airport or designated carrier facility.
You will need your reference number and government-issued photo ID (or the credit card used for payment with a matching name) to collect your goods.
Sealift
When a sealift shipment arrives in the destination community:
- Our team will notify you once the marine vessel arrives and provide the crate and/or container numbers.
- The customer is responsible for receiving the shipment directly from the marine carrier at the time of offloading, unless alternate arrangements have been made in advance.
- Inland or site delivery within the community can be arranged by EPLS upon request, subject to availability and additional charges.
- The customer (or their designated representative) must sign the marine manifest to confirm receipt of the shipment.
What happens if my order is lost or damaged in transit?
Before arrival at our warehouse
If your order is lost or damaged before arriving at our warehouse, it is the customer’s responsibility to resolve the issue directly with the supplier.
If damage is identified upon arrival at our warehouse, we will document it and notify you. You will then decide whether to proceed with shipping.
Air Freight – After shipment from our warehouse
For loss or damage occurring after shipment from our warehouse by air freight, coverage may be available up to $0.50 per pound of shipping weight, subject to investigation and approval by EPLS and our logistics partners. Additional insurance options may be recommended for high-value shipments.
Sealift – Marine Cargo
Sealift shipments are transported by third-party marine carriers and are subject to the carrier’s General Conditions of Carriage.
- Marine carriers have a limited legal liability per package or unit of cargo.
- Customers are strongly encouraged to obtain Marine Cargo Insurance to protect against loss or damage during sealift transportation.
- Optional “All Risk” Marine Cargo Insurance may be available through the marine carrier or the customer’s own insurance provider, subject to declared cargo value, premiums, deductibles, and carrier terms.
- Customers who decline marine cargo insurance assume the risk of loss or damage beyond the carrier’s legal limit of liability.
Insurance options and requirements will be discussed as part of the sealift quote and booking process.
Can sealift schedules change?
Yes. Sealift schedules are determined by the marine carrier and may change due to weather conditions, ice conditions, port operations, mechanical issues, or other operational factors.
While schedules are provided in advance, they are subject to change. EPLS will make reasonable efforts to notify customers as soon as possible if we are advised of any schedule changes that may impact their shipment.
Is inland delivery guaranteed for sealift shipments?
No. Inland or site delivery is not guaranteed for sealift shipments outside of Rankin Inlet and Arviat.
For other Nunavut communities, inland delivery may be limited or unavailable depending on local conditions, equipment availability, and carrier constraints. EPLS can review delivery options upon request, but customers should be prepared to receive shipments directly from the marine carrier where required.
